About Coast Mountains School District

Ła Bała Sgan – Welcome. The cedar mat is laid out for you.

Coast Mountains School District lies on the traditional and unceded territories of the Gitxsan, Haisla, Nisga'a and Ts'msyen Nations in beautiful Northwest British Columbia. The district serves approximately 4,200 learners across 19 schools in the culturally rich communities of Hazelton, Kitimat, Kitwanga, Stewart and Terrace. The district's new visioning document – Engage, Ignite, Empower – focuses on student learning and well-being in inclusive and culturally responsive learning environments.

The Coast Mountains School District is visually stunning, with communities surrounded by the Coast Mountains Range, providing abundant world-class opportunities for personal pursuits in the great outdoors. Serving a population of approximately 20,000, the City of Terrace is the business hub of the Northwest, with several flights daily to all major centres.
